The 28-year-old Dembélé made 53 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the 2024/25 season, scoring 35 goals and providing 16 assists.

He claimed four trophies with PSG: the Coupe de France, Trophée des Champions, Ligue 1, and UEFA Champions League. On the individual front, Dembélé secured the Ligue 1 Golden Boot, Ligue 1 Player of the Year, and UEFA Champions League Player of the Year last season. Additionally, he was awarded the prestigious 2025 Ballon d'Or in late September.

The Best FIFA Men's Player Award has been presented annually since 2016 to honor the top-performing player over a calendar year. This year's evaluation period spans from August 11, 2024, to August 2, 2025. Vinícius Júnior claimed the 2024 award.

Previously known as the FIFA World Player of the Year since 1991, the award merged with France Football's Ballon d'Or in 2010, being jointly called the FIFA Ballon d'Or during the six-year partnership.
Selection criteria include athletic performance and overall conduct on and off the pitch.

Voting is determined collectively by media representatives, national team coaches, and national team captains. In October 2016, FIFA announced the inclusion of public voting, with each of the four groups (media, coaches, captains, public) holding a 25% weight in the final result.
