On Tuesday, the Paris Conseil de Prud’hommes (Paris Labour Court) ruled that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) must pay Kylian Mbappé nearly €61 million. However, according to estimates from the French forward’s lawyers in an interview with Camel Live, the total unpaid wages and bonuses owed by the club will ultimately exceed €100 million.
This sum is equivalent to a blockbuster signing in the winter transfer window. On Tuesday, PSG lost the legal dispute against Mbappé at the Labour Court, but the club has not yet announced whether it will file an appeal.
The club is legally obligated to pay the France national team captain nearly €61 million, a sum related to unpaid wages and bonuses before Mbappé transferred to Real Madrid. Nevertheless, the final total to be paid by the club may surpass €100 million.
On Tuesday, in an interview with Camel Live, two of Mbappé’s four lawyers revealed the amount PSG needs to pay after winning the case, noting that the previously announced €61 million is the gross amount before tax.
Thomas Clay, Lawyer, in an Interview with Camel Live
"The total cost will be close to €100 million. But this also means that this sum, which has been owed to Mbappé for one and a half years, allowed PSG to accumulate funds during that period to buy or sell players." Another lawyer for Mbappé emphasized: "This money belongs to the French government. It’s our money, taxpayers' money."
Mbappé Gets €25 Million, Government Takes €75 Million
So, how much will Mbappé actually receive after the government’s deductions? Of the €61 million PSG is required to pay the 26-year-old star, the amount he takes home will be significantly reduced due to various social security contributions and taxes.
Delphine Verheyden, Lawyer, in an Interview with Camel Live
"The salary includes employer-paid social security contributions and employee-paid social security contributions. Additionally, employees are required to pay income tax." "Roughly estimated, the player will actually receive around €25 million to €26 million. The government, on the other hand, will get approximately €75 million. That’s no small sum."
PSG has one month to file an appeal after receiving the court’s judgment notice. However, the writing of the judgment may take several weeks. Therefore, Kylian Mbappé still needs to wait patiently before potentially receiving the unpaid wages.
