Manchester United officially announced that Ruben Amorim has stepped down from his position as the club's manager, with Darren Fletcher named as the interim boss.
Ruben Amorim has parted ways with Manchester United, but he has already mapped out his future career plan. In England, the 40-year-old coach is regarded as a potential successor to Benfica manager Jose Mourinho.
However, according to a source familiar with the matter, Ruben Amorim has a clear vision for his future development and has decided to continue coaching abroad for at least the next few years.
The coach has a deep affection for Portuguese football and is widely known to have long aspired to manage Benfica, his boyhood club. In fact, during the period prior to the club’s managerial appointment, he was the top target of Joao Noronha Lopes, until Rui Costa eventually signed Mourinho to fill the vacancy left by Bruno Lage’s departure.
Nevertheless, Amorim believes that given the path he has taken since leaving Sporting CP, as well as the risks associated with managing one of the world’s top clubs, making an immediate U-turn would be counterproductive. As a result, he is focusing on embracing new challenges in Europe’s major leagues.
On the other hand, having signed with AS1, an influential international mega-agency in the football market, there is strong confidence that top-tier clubs will extend offers to him for the next season.
It is certain that within the scope of his severance agreement with Manchester United, Amorim will not face any legal or tax obstacles that could affect his career choices. Therefore, a return to coach in Portugal would be feasible if that is the coach’s wish.
