Manchester United officially announced that Ruben Amorim has stepped down from his position as the club's manager, with Darren Fletcher named as the interim boss.
On the Interim Manager Candidate
So, what happens now? As I’ve told you before, Manchester United are in talks over a new manager. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready and raring to go. He is eager to sign for the club as soon as possible. He is currently the frontrunner for the interim role and has made full preparations. From what I know, he has already met with United officials and the talks were positive. Negotiations with Solskjaer are ongoing. United are taking their time to make a decision, but they are certainly pushing ahead with the appointment.
Therefore, Solskjaer is clearly the leading candidate to take the reins at Manchester United. In addition, the club has also held talks with Michael Carrick. So now it all comes down to what the club decides to do and what kind of coaching structure they want to put in place. But the direction is clear: appoint an interim manager to see the team through until the end of the season, hoping for a smooth run-in.
Meanwhile, United will look to secure a high-profile permanent manager in the summer (with all due respect to Solskjaer and Carrick). Eventually, one or both of them will have the chance to prove their worth to the club and try to earn a longer-term stay. But United will immediately start deliberating on plans for their new manager in 2026. This means there is, of course, an interim solution in place as well as a long-term plan for the future.
Looking ahead, United will base their decision on who will be their new permanent manager and lead the project going forward on several factors. From what I’ve heard, one key factor is definitely Premier League experience. This will be the top priority. You will hear many names linked with the United hotseat. I’m sure we’ll be here almost every day to tell you which names are genuine contenders and which stories are nothing but rumours.
There will be plenty of speculation surrounding the United manager’s job. But remember this: it is 100% confirmed that any candidate in the running for the club’s permanent manager position must have Premier League experience. United want someone who can make an immediate difference, lead the project and deliver instant results.
