Manchester United has not ruled out the possibility of Casemiro staying at the club next season, but the Brazilian midfielder may need to accept a pay cut to continue his career at Old Trafford.

The 33-year-old Casemiro’s contract runs until June 2026, and under the current terms, he will leave Old Trafford as a free agent this summer. After high-earning players like David de Gea, Raphaël Varane, and Marcus Rashford left the club one after another, Man Utd has been continuing to adjust its salary structure. Due to the lucrative contract he signed when joining from Real Madrid in 2022, Casemiro remains one of the highest-paid players in the team. Sources revealed that if he wants to stay, he must agree to a significant salary reduction.

Although Man Utd has an option to extend his contract by one year (which would keep him until June 2027), activating this clause means maintaining his current salary level. Notably, Casemiro has become a key part of manager Ruben Amorim’s tactical system.

Man Utd plans to restructure its midfield this summer and is expected to sign at least one key new player. However, with uncertainties surrounding Kobbie Mainoo’s future development and Sofyan Amrabat struggling to integrate into the team, Amorim may advocate for retaining Casemiro. Sources stated that the Brazilian has settled in Manchester with his family; despite receiving offers from the Brazilian Serie A and the Saudi Pro League, he is eligible to negotiate with clubs outside England starting from January in accordance with regulations.

Meanwhile, Man Utd also needs to decide on the futures of Harry Maguire and Tyrell Malacia. Both are in the final year of their contracts, though the club holds an option to extend Malacia’s deal. The Dutch left-back was asked to train separately this summer; although he has returned to the first-team squad, he has not made an appearance this season. Maguire’s one-year contract extension option was activated at the start of the year; if no new agreement is reached, the English defender can negotiate with teams from other leagues starting from January next year.
