Amorim Receives Full £10m Severance Package, Then Walks Out Laughing

Manchester United officially announced that Ruben Amorim has stepped down from his position as the club's manager, with Darren Fletcher named as the interim boss.

The life of a football coach (or a manager like Ruben Amorim) is ruthless, a fact reaffirmed on Monday morning when the 40-year-old was recalled to Carrington Training Ground and sacked.

Amorim arrived at the training ground at around 9:30 a.m. and left approximately half an hour later after being dismissed during a meeting with Chief Executive Officer Omar Berrada and Technical Director Jason Wilcox.

Amorim’s aggressive stance during a meeting with Wilcox at Carrington last Friday proved to be the final straw for the club, as he had consistently refused to abandon the three-at-the-back system in favor of a more attacking tactic.

Amorim had few personal belongings at Carrington, so he was able to quickly clear his desk and leave for the last time with his six-man coaching staff, without lengthy goodbyes to staff or players.

He will receive a £10 million severance package, bringing the total cost of hiring and firing the Portuguese manager to nearly £27 million. His coaching team will also be compensated.

Amorim then left the training ground in his black Porsche and was later photographed with his wife Maria at their home in Cheshire, walking in the snow and smiling at the camera.

Sacked managers rarely stay behind to face the subsequent fallout. Former Manchester United CEO Ed Woodward instructed his PR team to announce Jose Mourinho’s departure immediately after their meeting to prevent the Portuguese coach from telling his own version of events.

The only exception was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who remained at Carrington until the afternoon, gave a farewell interview to MUTV, and emotionally said goodbye to staff.
