Antoine Semenyo is set to join Manchester City – here we go! All relevant documents have been exchanged and finalised with Bournemouth.
The 26-year-old striker capped off his Bournemouth career in style by scoring the winning goal in Wednesday night’s match against Tottenham Hotspur.
He has already travelled north to undergo a medical, after which he will officially join the eight-time English champions on a contract running until June 2031.
Under the terms of the deal, Manchester City will pay a fixed transfer fee of £62.5 million (€71.97 million) along with £1.5 million (€1.7 million) in performance-related add-ons. Additionally, Bournemouth will receive a 10% sell-on clause on any future profit from Semenyo’s subsequent transfer.
The contract is structured to favour Manchester City, with the fee to be paid in instalments over 24 months rather than as a lump sum. Meanwhile, Bournemouth are set to receive a higher sum than the fixed amount specified in Semenyo’s release clause.
The overall value of the transaction is approximately £65 million, but this figure includes solidarity payments, VAT and Premier League surcharges, leaving Bournemouth with a net receipt of around £60 million.
This deal easily surpasses Bournemouth’s previous record sale – Dominic Solanke’s £55 million move to Tottenham Hotspur in 2024, which also included add-ons – and exceeds the offers tabled for Semenyo last summer.
Despite having opportunities to leave the club earlier, the Ghanaian international opted to sign a contract extension, but only on the condition that it included a clear release clause.
This clause has left Bournemouth with little power to block Semenyo’s departure, though the south coast club acknowledges his crucial contribution this season, which has seen him register 10 goals and 3 assists in 21 appearances.
Bournemouth’s ability to negotiate with the Premier League giants is further highlighted by their success in persuading Manchester City to allow Semenyo to feature in three additional matches, which ultimately helped the Cherries secure four vital points.
