Real Madrid have not ruled out the possibility that Kylian Mbappé could recover from his knee injury in time to feature in the potential Spanish Super Cup final this Sunday.

The 27-year-old forward missed Real Madrid’s 5-1 win over Real Betis due to a sprained left knee and will also sit out Thursday’s semi-final clash against Atlético Madrid.

Whether he can take the field in Sunday’s final remains uncertain, contingent on Real Madrid’s progression to the showpiece match.

Instead of travelling to join the squad for the Spanish Super Cup, the striker stayed in Madrid to undergo rehabilitation training. Real Madrid have arranged for two physiotherapists, Sébastien Devillaz and Guillermo Zurdo, to stay with Mbappé in Madrid to assist his recovery and make every effort to ensure he can be fit for the final.

An anonymous source with knowledge of the situation revealed that if Real Madrid beat Atlético Madrid, the possibility of Mbappé making a late return for the final hasn’t been ruled out.

Academy graduate Gonzalo García, who scored a hat-trick in the win over Betis, is in line to start against Atlético Madrid in Mbappé’s absence.

Mbappé underwent a medical check-up at the end of December, having played through the pain barrier for several weeks with a persistent knee complaint.

The French international is Real Madrid’s top scorer this season, netting 29 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions. Prior to sustaining the knee injury, he had missed just one game this term—the Champions League group-stage fixture against Manchester City in December, where he was an unused player.
