According to reports from several verified German media outlets, the French international defender (35 appearances, 2 goals) will put pen to paper on a contract extension in the coming days.

The new deal will run until either June 30, 2030 or June 30, 2031.

Following weeks of negotiations, the club and the player’s representatives have reached an agreement on the final sticking points. It is reported that the two parties have also agreed on a signing bonus, expected to be €20 million, as well as a €65 million release clause that will come into effect in the summer of 2027.

For weeks, Bayern Munich’s decision-makers have sought to avoid including such a high-value release clause, as it is not their usual practice to accept such terms. But to retain the Frenchman, they are well aware that making this concession is crucial.

His annual salary is expected to hit €20 million, doubling his current earnings.

This will catapult him into the ranks of the club’s highest-paid players. Currently, only Harry Kane (€25 million per year), Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala (€24 million per year) earn more than him. The official announcement of the new contract is anticipated in the coming days.

This July, the Evreux-born player will kick off his sixth season on the banks of the Isar. Four years ago, he joined the Bavarian metropolis from RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of €42.5 million.

Head coach Vincent Kompany’s recent contract extension until June 2029 has undoubtedly been a key factor in facilitating this decision. Over the past few months, the pair have built a genuine relationship of trust, which explains the Frenchman’s impressive performances and his pivotal role for Munich this season.
