Latest reports suggest Atlético Madrid are continuing their transfer market push, pursuing Chelsea defender Renato Veiga.
On Tuesday, the Colchoneros announced their fifth signing for the 2025-26 season, securing 22-year-old right-back Marc Pubill from Almería on a five-year contract following a successful medical. Prior to Pubill, Atlético had already signed Ruggeri, Baena, Almada, and Cardoso.
Adding a center-back is another key target for Atlético this summer, and they are currently close to finalizing a deal for Renato Veiga. The 21-year-old Portuguese defender has reached a principle agreement with Chelsea, and the player himself is firmly set on joining the Colchoneros. While the deal is not yet finalized, significant progress has been made.
A product of Sporting CP's youth academy, Veiga moved to Basel for nearly €5 million in 2023, before Chelsea signed him for €14 million a year later. During his loan spell at Juventus in January, he made 13 Serie A appearances, contributing 1 goal and 2 assists. In addition to center-back, Veiga can also play as a left-back or even a defensive midfielder.
Chelsea initially valued the Portuguese player at €40 million, but Atlético will not meet that asking price. However, the deal has advanced due to the good relationship between the two clubs and Chelsea's need to continue trimming their squad. Stamford Bridge is aware that Veiga would struggle for game time under Maresca, and the player also sees Atlético as an ideal choice to advance his career.
