Harvey Elliott Not in Liverpool & Villa’s Plans, MLS Club Looks to Sign Him
Charlotte FC of Major League Soccer is looking to offer Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott a way out of his season-long slump.
The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Aston Villa but has been sidelined by manager Unai Emery, with minimal game time coming his way. It is understood Villa may terminate the loan deal early, yet the England U21 international is also not in Liverpool boss Arne Slot’s plans, meaning his loan contract contains no recall clause.
Having made 2 appearances for Liverpool and 5 for Villa this season, Elliott is ineligible to play for any other European club for the remainder of the campaign. But Camel Live understands a move to the MLS remains an open option for the English midfielder, attracting interest from several American clubs.
Charlotte FC hold the exclusive priority to sign Elliott and are willing to offer him regular game time, preventing him from wasting the entire season on the bench.
Former Aston Villa manager Dean Smith and Charlotte FC general manager Zoran Krneta boast strong connections in English football, a factor that is believed to have put them ahead in the race. The club acknowledges Elliott prefers to stay in the Premier League, but they hope to lure him with guaranteed playing time, capitalizing on the 2026 World Cup being hosted in the US.
Weekly appearances in the MLS would keep his profile high and alive his World Cup hopes, as his arrival is set to generate huge buzz stateside.
The key now hinges on three-way negotiations between Charlotte FC, Aston Villa and Liverpool to resolve his game time issue. If no agreement is reached, Elliott could view Charlotte FC’s offer as the best short-term choice before reshaping his career this summer.
