Sources claim Manchester United are set to offer Jonny Evans a coaching role under Darren Fletcher, who is finalizing his backroom team ahead of the upcoming Premier League clash against Burnley.

Following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, Fletcher has been appointed as the interim manager at Old Trafford, leaving him with barely any time to assemble a supporting team, as this marks his first stint in charge of a senior side.

The former United midfielder oversaw a small-scale training session on Monday but will ramp up preparations today for the away trip to Burnley. Manchester United U21s boss Travis Binnion, along with newly-arrived academy coach Alan Wright who recently joined from Manchester City, will also come on board as part of Fletcher’s first-team coaching staff.

Amorim brought over a sizeable contingent of coaches from Sporting CP, all of whom have now departed the club. The list includes assistant manager Carlos Fernandes, first-team coaches Adérito Candido and Emanuel Ferro, goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital, as well as fitness coach Paulo Barreira.
The only member of the first-team coaching staff to remain following Amorim’s exit is goalkeeping coach Craig Mawson. The 46-year-old has been at Manchester United for six years, having joined the club from Burnley in late 2019.

Evans, who stepped down from his role as United’s Loans and Career Development Manager just a month ago, is likely to return as part of the first-team coaching staff and is expected to be involved in time for the Burnley game, with a contract set to run until the end of the season.

The centre-back retired at the end of the 2024-25 season and enjoyed two spells at United as a player. His intimate knowledge of the club is regarded as an invaluable asset. Evans once played alongside Fletcher, who will get the chance to showcase his capabilities this week after being promoted from his role as U18s manager.

Fletcher previously served as a first-team coach under Erik ten Hag and also held the position of technical director at United. This is his first experience leading a senior squad, so the club is considering appointing a more experienced interim manager to see out the season, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick both on the shortlist.

Solskjaer recently left his post at Besiktas, while Carrick has been unattached since departing Middlesbrough. Both have previous experience managing at Old Trafford, making them more seasoned candidates than Fletcher.
