In Frank Lampard’s coaching career, he has twice led teams in bids for promotion to the Premier League but failed in the play-offs. This season, he is poised to guide Coventry City to direct promotion. In an interview, Lampard talked about his coaching journey.

Lampard said: “There’s a sense of unity at Coventry, and the challenge now is whether we can keep moving forward and make greater progress. People sometimes ask me: ‘You should have started by coaching youth teams or lower-league sides.’ But I think why? I had a long playing career and learned a lot from it. Of course, as a manager, you need to relearn and take on more responsibilities, but I had played for so long and wanted to seize the opportunity to coach Derby County.”
“The job at Chelsea came at the right time. People have their own opinions, but the opportunity was there—they had a transfer ban and so on. Without those circumstances, I wouldn’t have gotten that role. There, I worked with young players, and we qualified for the Champions League and reached the FA Cup final.”
