Prediction: Morocco wins

Cameroon have not been the most convincing team defensively in this competition, having conceded in each of their last three matches, but they have managed to keep going by breaking down opposing defences on the counterattack.

We saw exactly that against South Africa in the last round, and that’s likely to be the case here, where Morocco are expected to dominate possession. Given the wealth of attacking talent on display here, we fancy both sides to get on the scoresheet. Our Cameroon vs Morocco prediction is Morocco wins and BTTS.

Cameroon clinched their spot in the knockout stage of the 2025 AFCON by finishing second in Group F, recording wins over Gabon and Mozambique, either side of a 1-1 draw against the Ivory Coast.

The Indomitable Lions faced their toughest test in the Round of 16, where they withstood a late barrage of attacks from South Africa but managed to hold on to a 2-1 lead and secure progression.

This marks the 11th time that Cameroon will feature in an AFCON quarter-final, and they have a record of W5 D2 L3 at this stage of the competition. Their most recent appearance in the last eight was in 2021, when they went on to clinch the bronze medal.

Cameroon have a few injury concerns for this match, starting with Lorient defender Darlin Yongwa, who was forced off against South Africa and is unlikely to feature in this match.

Mahamadou Nagida and Carlos Baleba are also listed as doubts, but are not ruled out as yet. Baleba produced a Player of the Match performance in the last round and has been the team’s standout midfielder in this competition.

In attack, the Indomitable Lions will look to Bryan Mbuemo and Christian Kofane. Mbeumo has created nine chances for the team in this competition, while Kofane has scored in the last two games.

Meanwhile, Morocco made the most of a favourable draw in the group stage. They won Group A with seven points, beating the Comoros 2-0 and Zambia 3-0, while drawing 1-1 against Zambia.

The Atlas Lions faced a stubborn Tanzania in the last-16 and managed to get through with a 1-0 scoreline. The scoreline in that match did not tell the full story, as they had 73% possession and 12 shots at goal.

Despite being the highest-ranked team on the continent, Morocco have not reached the semi-final of the AFCON since 2004, when they finished as runners-up to North African rivals Tunisia.

Morocco also have a couple of injury issues at present, with Azzedine Ounahi ruled out for the remainder of the tournament after sustaining a calf tear during training ahead of the Round of 16.

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back Romain Saiss is also sidelined, having picked up a muscle injury in the opening match of the tournament. Nayef Aguerd will likely partner Adam Masina in central defence.

In his first start in this competition, skipper Achraf Hakimi registered an assist against Tanzania, and he will almost certainly lineup at right-back, with Noussair Mazraoui switching to the left.
