Argentine journalist Hernán Castillo revealed on social media that Lionel Messi told his teammates in the dressing room yesterday that he has played his final match for the Argentina national team.
The journalist reposted a video of Messi delivering a dressing-room motivational speech during the 2021 Copa América campaign and commented: “That rallying speech was delivered inside the dressing room. However, his remarks in the World Cup final dressing room were far more emotional, as he stated that this would be his final national team game. Notably, his public statements in the corridor told a different story. Just like after previous matches, he did not make any impassioned remarks out in the corridor.”
Messi has flown back to his hometown Rosario in Argentina with his family to take a short break. According to Ole, all parties are now waiting for Messi to confirm his future with the national team.
Argentina’s next major tournament will be the 2028 Copa América, and speculation continues over whether Messi will continue his international career. It is confirmed that Messi will keep playing at club level.
