FC Twente officially announced that Erik ten Hag will take up the role of the club's technical director from the next season. Ten Hag will officially join FC Twente on February 1st and assume the position of the club's technical director starting from the 2026/27 season.

Erik ten Hag will officially join FC Twente on February 1 and sign a contract running until mid-2028. He will take over from the current Technical Director Jan Streuer as the club’s technical director starting from the 2026/27 season, with Streuer having recently announced his departure at the end of the current campaign. Ahead of the new season, ten Hag will get involved in FC Twente’s football management work in advance.

Ten Hag commented: “It is a wonderful and significant feeling to return to FC Twente. Both my playing and coaching careers began here. Drawing on my experience in youth development, team building and top-tier competitive culture, I look forward to working hand in hand with the supervisory board, management team and coaching staff to strengthen FC Twente’s technical foundations, and sustainably unlock the club’s potential as a regional flagship.”

The club’s Chief Executive Officer Jan Schulten said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Erik ten Hag back to FC Twente.”

Schulten further explained the reason for appointing ten Hag: “Erik boasts an outstanding track record in football, and his bond with FC Twente has always remained strong. He once served as youth coach, head of youth development and first-team assistant coach at FC Twente, before going on to take up head coach and technical management roles at a number of renowned clubs at home and abroad. We have maintained frequent communication recently, and soon found that both sides share a strong ambition to take FC Twente to the next level. This aligns perfectly with the development roadmap we recently announced – we are setting higher goals and continuously advancing the professionalization of our football structure.”
