Prediction: Manchester United Wins

After the loss to Brighton, Burnley are now six points from safety. While they will feel that this is the ideal time to face United, riding an 11-match winless streak makes it difficult to back them with any sort of confidence.

For Man United, this is about the best fixture they could have asked for following this week’s events. With both sides in desperate need of a positive result, we are expecting a close contest, but we fancy the Red Devils to get the job done. Our Burnley vs Manchester United prediction is Manchester United wins.

Burnley’s top-flight survival hopes took another major blow over the weekend, when they suffered a 2-0 loss away to Brighton & Hove Albion - their 14th defeat in 20 league games this season.

That result also marked the Clarets’ 11th consecutive league match without victory (D2 L9), and was the eighth time they conceded two or more goals during this winless run, which dates back to October 26.

The hosts have only earned a single point from their last six home league games, which is the worst record in the division across this period. They have not beaten United at Turf Moor since August 2009.

The Clarets have a lengthy casualty list at present, with Jordan Beyer, Zeki Amdouni, Josh Cullen, and Joe Worrall sidelined, while Connor Roberts and Zian Flemming are listed as major doubts.

Maxime Esteve lasted just 14 minutes on his return to action last week against Newcastle and missed the trip to Brighton at the weekend, with Scott Parker refusing to risk starting the centre-back.

Esteve could make the squad this week, while Hannibal Mejbri and Lyle Foster are likely to be back with the team in the coming days after Tunisia and South Africa were eliminated from the 2025 AFCON.

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim’s axing followed a disappointing 1-1 draw away to Leeds at the weekend, which saw Manchester United slip to sixth place, leapfrogged by Chelsea in the league standings.

The Red Devils have lost just one of their last eight league matches (W3 D4 L1), but they have now drawn seven games this season (35%) - the third-most of any team in the top flight to date.

Additionally, the draw at Elland Road took United’s goals conceded tally to 30 for the season, which is the most of the top 14 teams in the Prem. They have yet to keep a clean sheet on the road this term.

The former Red Devils’ midfielder is widely expected to revert to a four-at-the-back formation with immediate effect, which is something that many United fans had been hoping for Amorim to do before his departure.

However, the new boss is missing several key players, including defensive duo Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt through injury, while Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui are still at the AFCON.

It will be interesting to see if Kobbie Mainoo returns to the fray after his turbulent time under Amorim’s leadership. Mason Mount resumed training this week and should be in contention to start in midweek.
