Liam Rosenior confirmed at a press conference that he is set to take charge of Chelsea.

Rosenior: "I have received approval from Strasbourg to interview and hold discussions with one of the world's biggest football clubs, and it is an honor for me.

Now, I am about to manage one of the world's biggest football clubs, Chelsea."

“The past 18 months in France have been absolutely wonderful. There are moments in life when you have to face decisions you simply can’t turn down, but I know this club will always hold a special place in my heart for life.I’ve had other offers before, but the timing just wasn’t right.
I couldn’t say no to joining such a great club, such a fantastic team—and they’re Club World Cup champions too. Plus, I get to be back home with my kids. I don’t think anyone can question the effort I put in for RC Strasbourg, or my decision to keep progressing in my career.”

“So for me, managing Chelsea is an opportunity I just can’t pass up in my life—I hope everyone can understand that.”

“Will this hurt Strasbourg? The future is unpredictable—sometimes you never know if what’s ahead is good fortune or bad luck. But I can promise all Strasbourg fans that the manager who takes over from me is an absolutely fantastic person, and a top-level coach.”

“Why am I here today? I haven’t signed the official contract yet, but I’ve already reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea. Everything’s in place, and I’ll probably put pen to paper in a few hours. But… I chose to come back to France today because I thought it was right to answer your questions in person—I wanted to tell everyone my decision directly from me.”

“Becoming a coach has been my lifelong dream. Getting the chance to manage a world-class football club is exactly what I’ve always wished for. I’m so excited. This is my last day at Strasbourg, and the last time I’ll wake up as RC Strasbourg’s head coach.”

The 41-year-old Rosenier had a playing career with teams such as Brighton, Hull City, and Fulham. In the summer of 2024, he became the head coach of Strasbourg and has been coaching there since. He was also Rooney's assistant at Derby County.

On January 1st, Chelsea announced that Maresca would no longer serve as the team's head coach, and subsequently, interim coach McFarland led the team to a 1-1 draw against Manchester City. Currently, Chelsea has 31 points from 20 rounds, ranking fifth in the Premier League.
