In the 80th minute of the game, Vinícius Júnior was substituted, but he continued to argue with Atlético manager Diego Simeone as he walked to the touchline! This triggered some minor scuffles between the two sides on the sidelines.
Vinícius was then persuaded to leave by Antonio Rüdiger, and both he and Simeone were subsequently booked with a yellow card each. Xabi Alonso and other members of Real Madrid's coaching staff also expressed strong dissatisfaction with Simeone.
According to reports, when Vinícius left the pitch, Simeone said to him: “Listen to the noise from the stands. I can hear people booing you.”
