Manchester United officially announced that Ruben Amorim has stepped down from his position as the club's manager, with Darren Fletcher named as the interim boss.

On the other hand, we have to talk about Manchester United. As we mentioned earlier today and two days ago, I was the first to inform you all right after Ruben Amorim’s departure. It was clear back then that relations between Amorim and the club were extremely strained, putting them in a very difficult situation. That is why Amorim was sacked in the early hours of yesterday. But the name I mentioned – and I stand by it – is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. His return is a genuine possibility and is now drawing ever closer. As I said yesterday, Solskjaer took the initiative to offer to take over at United, and I told you today that both parties have made contact regarding this possibility.

What unfolded from afternoon to evening is this: Solskjaer, his representatives and Manchester United have been in touch. Discussions and negotiations are ongoing, and Solskjaer is now regarded as the leading candidate for the club’s new manager role – of course, as interim manager until the end of the season, after which United will appoint a high-profile coach as permanent manager in the summer of 2026. That is the current plan.

This afternoon, Solskjaer told Manchester United, “There are no issues with the contract, the duration or the salary. I care not for money. I just want to help Manchester United, I just want to come back to the club.” Therefore, Solskjaer and his agent have sorted out all the contract details. Now it is up to Manchester United to make the final decision on whether to push ahead with the appointment. Within the club, however, this is seen as a very concrete and viable solution.

Of course, other names mentioned internally include Michael Carrick and Ruud van Nistelrooy. Both are former United players who have also served as the club’s interim manager and know the club extremely well. At present, though, Solskjaer remains the clear frontrunner. Let us wait and see who the club’s owners, directors and management will ultimately choose. This will be an important development worth watching. But his chances are high and he is ready. A deal could therefore be struck at any time.

It is reported that Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team on a matchday basis this week. Jonny Evans has also returned to Manchester United; he is obviously a former United player and is now back to assist the backroom staff. He left the club a few months ago and is returning today to help Fletcher. This is an important development: Evans is coming back to join the backroom team during this difficult time for United.
