Knocked Out by a Sixth-Tier Club: Glasner Fumes at Post-Match Press Conference

EPL News Flash

In the third round of the FA Cup, defending champions Crystal Palace suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat at the hands of sixth-tier side Macclesfield. After the game, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner was extremely frustrated and stated, “Tactics and managers are unnecessary in this kind of match.”

Glasner said: "We congratulate Macclesfield; they deserved to win the game.

"Our performance was utterly devoid of quality today. I didn’t see a single player manage to complete a successful dribble. Then we conceded from set-pieces and misjudged aerial balls.

“If you can’t even create clear-cut scoring chances, it just shows that we simply weren’t good enough today. We fully deserved this loss.”

On expectations following half-time substitutions

Glasner: "The expectation was for everyone to show their true level. To be honest, I can’t explain what I saw out there today. We could make excuses, but I played football for 19 years. In this type of game, you don’t need tactics or a manager—you just need to show your ability and play with a bit of pride... But today, we failed to do anything at all."
